Now, why do people watch Vin Diesel? Funny you should ask this, because I watched my first Vin Diesel movie just this past weekend and during the show asked myself exactly that question!
I concluded that there were many possible reasons. In my particular case, I was at the big movie theatre in Richmond by the 6-rinks ice rink. I was in the area because I was helping evaluate hockey players. But there was a 3 hour break between the preliminary games and the all star game, so I had some time to kill… and no car! The Chronicles of Riddick was the only movie that I could attend that had these attributes:
1) it was starting soon
2) it would end before the all star game started
3) I hadn’t seen it yet
4) I wouldn’t feel bad about the fact that I wasn’t taking my wife or kids to the movie.
During the movie, I actually did ask myself why people would watch it (because the special effects were poorly done IMHO) and concluded that:
1) some girls probably like Vin Diesel’s muscles
2) some guys probably like Vin Diesel’s muscles
3) it was made here in Vancouver, so some of the crew probably is watching it to see whether or not they did a good job
4) some younger kids who used to pretend they were Power Rangers might like the action
5) people may watch it because they have nothing better to do (that was my situation)
6) sometimes people go to movies because the other people in their group want to go and they succumb to peer pressure.
But for a lot of people, it’s probably that every once in awhile, you get a craving for movie theatre popcorn! For me, that was actually the deciding factor between seeing a movie (ANY movie) and just going to the bar at the ice rink!
That’s the secret — popcorn.
