Dear oldguy,

When it comes to home maintenance and repairs (including house, yard, and pool), what’s the best way to approach it: learn to do it yourself, or hire people to do it?

Dear oldguy,

Thanks for the quick reply. Here a follow-up:
What do you look for to find a good tax professional?

nioniosmeg interjected: Dear oldguy, in this country, all the teams are fighting, they aren’t playing football.
WHY, ARE THEY DOING IT?

Lately I have been learning french, and came across an instance where someone who spoke french was bothering me, so i told them ” Mangez-moi!”, which means “eat-me!” at which point they burst out laughing because its not really something you can say in french. So it got me thinking, and it really doesn’t make sense in english either. I figure it comes from “bite me!”, and thus my question is, where did the saying “bite me!” orginate?

Hey 2%! How ya doin? I’m feelin’ wicked so I’m gonna answer your question.

“Eat me” is a much shortened reference to an extremely crude suggestion which we really shouldn’t be discussing on a family site like Altering Time. Ditto “bite me”.

What is interesting is that, vile as the originals are, the shortened versions become sanitized by general ignorance over time though they are still recognized as insulting. Another example of this are the various references to “eating humble pie” which are nowadays considered relatively tame. Don’t ask, you don’t want to know.

And yes, I know I’m breaking the Old Guy rules… bwa-ha-ha… though sometimes he asks me to answer so maybe I’m only jumping the gun. We’ll see how long this stays up here but I’m really jumping in because I’ve got a question I want to ask and I’m getting tired of waiting for the old… guy. So now that I’ve answered this question – or forced him to intercede and answer it himself – I can ask mine!

El_Si interjected: Ahem…

Yo ancient dude… revered elder… oh, oracle of wisdom… aged fogey with the reference book…

Is it really better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?

Are you trying to get a reaction or givin’ it to us straight?

Is your answer just subjective opinion or can you back it up with evidence?

Hey oldguy,

What’s the deal with the huge number (or murder, I suppose) of crows around the Grandview Highway/Willingdon Ave. freeway exits in the Lower Mainland?

How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? jk

Put the lightsaber back I do have a question. I saw a blog a while ago that mentioned something realy sad. the daily show with jon stuart actualy has him doing legitimate news and in interviews on books he actually asks questions related to the material in the book instead of why they wrote it and. My question is why is an illegitimate comedy program showing legitmate news while the major news organizations are having lead stories about what celeb is getting out of prison for the umpteenth time.
